It is lies 10 km west of Thiruvalla on the Kidangara Neerattupuram road, surrounded by Thalavady, Neerettupuram, Kunnamkary, Chathamkary & Mithrakary villages. Muttar is 25 km from Alappuzha town, on the banks of Manimala river which lies on the east of the village and right in front of Riverside Inn Muttar. The village has several coconut plantations and paddy fields. Here paddy is cultivated about 5 ft below sea level.

The Hosts
Riverside Inn Muttar Homestay is run by Prof. C F Joseph & his wife Mrs. Cathy Joseph who were in earlier based in the middle east for many years. Prof. Joseph is an Education & Career Guidance Specialist who still runs Leadership & Personality Development courses for students and adults by the name of ‘Born to Excel’, whereas his wife Mrs. Cathy Joseph ran a Montessori school at Dubai.

Muttar Village
The village of Muttar has several attractions. The oldest place of Hindu worship in Muttar is the Kochukodungalloor Temple, located on the Northwest side of the village. Another Hindu religious destination ' Chakulathukavu' Temple. In addition, there are three Nasrani Churches also in this small village. The oldest one is St George's Syro-Malabar Church established in 1850 A.D. A new church was constructed in 2000 AD. Other Syro-Malabar Churches are St Thomas Church Kumaramchira and Marth Mariam Church Mariyakari (Koventhappalli). There is one Mar Thoma Church as well.

Wonderful

Stayed for 2 days,it was awesome experience. Uncle & Aunty took care of us though we were their children. Calm , relaxed place with scenic river. Uncle gave full background how he started hosting guest. they are doing this with lot of passion. very passionate in what they do and great to see that at this age. Friendly, comfortable and helpful with delicious food
We stayed with Joseph and Cathy during our holiday in Kerala. The Riverside Inn is a very comfortable property with a beautiful balcony overlooking the river. Cathy's cooking was one of the high points of our time in Kerala and nothing is too much trouble for Joseph. We learnt a great deal about the history of the area generally and of the Catholic church in particular. We also borrowed their boat for an interesting paddle up and down the river. It is a "Homestay" which is equivalent to a B and B, i.e. the proprietors live on the premises.

Paradise
What can I say other than the word above "paradise". We arrived at the Riverside after touring around Munnar for a few days. Even after the confusion of Booking.com failing to notify Kathy of our stay we were welcomed with open arms and made to feel part if the family instantly. The Riverside is as it sound right by the water. Indeed the water is so clean we were able to swim in it. Kathy and Jo's home us stunning. Unlike other Homestay you truly are part of the family. Jo showed us round his village where we were met with countless waves, greetings and smiles. Kathy provided us with some of the best food we have tasted since are arrival in this beautiful country. A change of plan resulted in us needing a hotel for a night in Allepey; Jo jumped into action and booked a place for us and arranged for us to be driven at no cost in his car to Allepey. I truly cannot put into words how Idylic this place is. Two perfect days in a perfect location with perfect hosts.

Yoga retreat holiday at Riverside Inn
I ran a yoga retreat holiday at Riverside Inn and I will be booking again for 2017! Cathy and Joseph are the most amazing hosts and planned amazing trips for all the group. Rooms clean, beautifully appointed and air conditioned. Food amazing! Near the river, wonderful space for the group to do yoga on the veranda and wonderful service throughout our stay! The atmosphere is most suited to a yoga retreat and for many it was their first trip to India but as it was so wonderful many are arranging to go back on holidays!

Kerala, India Homestay "Bed and Breakfast"
Cathy and Joseph the owners of the homestay take special interest in the guest. They made arrangements for us and making sure we got to see and do everything we wanted to do and more + excellent meals! Things you will want to do in Kerala: Houseboat day trip. Snake boat races - if you are there at the right time of the year. Day at the Indian Ocean - nice beaches. Basket Boat ride - amazing like being in the Kipling's Jungle Book Rainforest. Hot Oil Message - Kerala is known for this. Visit old Fort Cochin to shop and see the historic town and sites. Cathy and Joe made all of our arrangements and transportation!!!! Transportation planned for us was a REAL plus.

Spacious rooms and peaceful views!
We found this home-stay to use while we were visiting Kerala for a wedding. The most amazing thing is that even with our mixed group of Americans and Indians - everyone felt right at home.We had small children who loved playing on the swings on the balcony and looking for fish by the river. The balcony was very large and overlooked the river. The property has it's own boat dock with a small boat. Joseph and Cathy were excellent hosts who went out of their way to help us with whatever we needed. They have lived abroad and know how to cater to guests from anywhere. The rooms were unusually spacious for a home-stay - I think since owners built the property for their own use. The food was also exceptional. They offered home-style Kerala dishes that are not often available at hotels. I would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a relaxing, peaceful environment. The spacious rooms and balcony would also make this place ideal for retreats or gatherings. I hope to return again soon!

Heaven on earth!
We had an awesome 2 weeks! It was quiet and relaxing when we needed it. Just sit by the riverside watching the local people go by on their boats. Or sitting on the balcony surrounded by coconut trees reading a book. The rooms are really comfortable and the service was great. The kids loved playing in the paddling pool and swimming in the river itself. We did some fishing with a few beers, we walked around the village, the paddy fields and had a trip to a rubber plantation. We travelled on auto- rickshaws, 3 wheel tut-tuts and the kids loved it! There was really something for everyone - will definitely be going back!
